Water Scarcity hits Sekondi-Takoradi
Residents of Sekondi Takoradi have been battling water Scarcity for a week.
The shortage has badly affected the daily activities of residents since they had to walk for long distance to fetch water with regard to domestic and commercial activities.
Residents who spoke to Egudzeonline say they are unhappy with Ghana Water Company for not alerting them before closing the taps.
" At least they should have known better by making proper announcement like how sometimes Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced." They stated.
The unexpected situation has left many to rely on other unhygienic sources of water, a situation that could cause water - borne diseases.
However, some consumers now rely heavily on sachet water for bathing, cooking and other activities. Sometimes one had to skip bath due to water shortage in Sekondi Takoradi.
Residents of Sekondi Takoradi and its environs have been battling some temporal water crisis, since Monday November 18.
According to sources, an electrical transformer that powers the Daviase Treatment plant has developed a fault, and as such the company has resorted to ration water from Inchaban Treatment plant for the two cities.
Residents have had to resort to wells dug at their households and satche water for drinking and other household chores.
Responding to this crisis, Communication Manager for the Western and Central Regions, of the GWCL, Nana Yaw Barimah-Barnie said, the company is working around the clock to resolve the problem.
He explained that a new transformer in transit from Kumasi, to be installed at the Daboase plant.
It was expected that the transformer would be fixed over the weekend but due to certain circumstances that became an impossibility.
Sources within the company has disclosed that the crane hired by the water company from Kumasi to fix the problem also broke down.
