Ahanta West MP nominated to ECOWAS parliament

Member of Parliament for Ahanta West Constituency, Ebenezer Kojo Kum has been nominated to serve on the Community Parliament of ECOWAS. He will be serving with seven other Representatives of the Parliament of Ghana; Ama Pomaa Boateng, MP- Juaben Constituency, Wabab Wumbei Suhuyini, MP- Tolon, Collins Owusu Amankwa, MP-Manhyia North Constituency, Clement Kofi Humado, MP-Anlo constituency, Mahama Ayariga, MP-Bawku Central Constituency, Sampson Ahi, MP-Bodi Constituency; led by Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, MP-Sunyani East constituency. Parliament on Monday 23 December, 2019 passed a resolution, approving of the eight-member parliamentary representatives on the ECOWAS Parliament. Patnaya Foundation donates to children at Aboom School for Special Needs

Patnaya Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation committed to helping the less privileged, PATNAYA foundation yesterday donated assorted items to Children with special needs at the Aboom School for Special Needs of the Central Region. The items, which included; toiletries, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, drinks, boxes of tomatoes, Stationaries, washing powders, scrubbing brushes, mob bucket, sanitary pads and  among others, valued at GHC4,000.00 were donated to the management of the School as members of the Foundation also spent time playing with the children. Miss Portia Nana Yaa Cudjoe, the founder, said through the research of the Foundation, it found out that Aboom School for Special needs was consistently in dire need of the donated items and hence the decision to extend their helping hand to them. The Western Region House of Chiefs is demanding the reinstatement of Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, Paramount Chief for Sefwi-Anhwianso traditional area, as the Chair of the Governance and Development Committee of the National House of Chiefs. The Western Region House of Chiefs (WRHC) scorned that the removal of the embattled chief, is ‘an affront to the customary integrity of the Chieftancy Institution and natural justice’. Southey Contracting Limited celebrates xmas with Sekondi School for the Deaf

Southey Contracting, an industrial and engineering services company in Ghana’s upstream oil and gas sector, has extended some of the excitement of its Christmas package to pupils of the Sekondi School for the Deaf in the western region, with a donation of assorted provisions and food items. Southey Contracting Limited made the donation to the school in line with its policy of promoting good corporate neighborliness, and to show commitment to the development of the school.  The donation, which took place at the school’s premises was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the pupils in the Christmas festive season. Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Favour Aflakpui, the Headmistress of the school commended Southey Contracting Limited for the donation and said the donation was timely and would help the pupils. Ghana Gas promises to provide scholarships for journalists

Journalists in the Western Region are to expect some incentive from the Ghana National Gas Company Limited to build their capacity in the oil and gas industry. This offer, according to the Head of Corporate Communications for Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Ernest Owusu Bempah will be in the form of scholarships. Addressing journalist in the Western Region over the weekend in a press soiree, Mr Owusu Bempah explained that the scholarship will offer beneficiaries to advance learning in the industry to enrich their reportage and career development. He added that management had already initiated deliberations into the subject and shall be concluded soon. Mr Owusu Bempah disclosed that the company is in talks with degree awarding institutions in Ghana to develop some program along the oil and gas sector to enhance knowledge in the media space. Shama: NADMO intensifies campaign to fight fire accidents and disasters

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service in the Shama District has embarked on sensitization exercise to curb bush-fire and domestic fire accidents or disasters. The community outreach program drawn from the International Day for Disaster which was observed in October this year, was extended to Assokor Essaman a rural community in the Shama District of the Western Region. The rationale for this exercise, according to the District Coordinator for NADMO, Michael Nyan is to instill some best practices and attitudes in the citizenry on disaster control management, especially fire, as we get into the harmattan season. List of major challenges facing Kwesimintsim Government Hospital

The Kwesimintsim Government Hospital is a heavily attended health facility with over 7,000 OPD attendance every month. over 5,000 of these patients are admitted annually for treatment, with a record of over a thousand maternal health every year. The hospital serves residents of the Kwesimintsim Municipality and adjoining districts. Since the facility was upgraded from a polyclinic to a hospital, no major expansion works had been carried The hospital is the first point of call when accidents and other emergency cases occur on the main Kwesimintsim-Agona-Nkwanta highway.  However, the hospital has no accident and emergency block. All cases, including paediatrics, female ward and A&E are all attended to in one room. The hospital also lacks ambulance for referral cases. STMA: Teacher Unions call strike over unpaid arrears

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH), have declared a strike over salary arrears. According to the teacher unions, the latest action which took effect on Monday, December 9, 2019, follows a series of engagements with the government on Legacy Arrears incurred between 2012 and 2016. The three unions in the jointly signed statement say the lack of adherence on the part of the government to these demands has necessitated the strike. Government withdraws Article 55 (3) ammendment from Parliament

The President has withdraw the December 17 national referendum which was meant to decide on an amendment of Article 55 (3) of the Constitution to enable political parties to sponsor candidates during local level elections. This was announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, December 1, 2019. As the referendum day drew closer, there was a noticeable split among major stakeholders and observers.
